Minneapolis, MN – July 26, 2006 – Sagebrush Corporation today announced the sale of its library automation business to Follett Software Company. The Sagebrush library automation business, under the new Follett leadership, will initially continue to operate under the Sagebrush name.
Sagebrush Books, Sagebrush Library Services, and Sagebrush Viewpoint will continue as a new separate company. This new company will be led by Bob Hebrink as CEO and Margo Osadchuk as Senior Vice President. Jim Zicarelli, former CEO of Sagebrush Corporation will continue with the new company as a member of its Board of Directors.
"I am confident that Bob and Margo's leadership and experience will accelerate the growth and success of the new book and services company," said Zicarelli.
Under Hebrink's new leadership, the company will focus on its core competencies of book services and library services to its business partners. As well, the company will focus on continued growth in the area of information management for districts with its Viewpoint product. "Sagebrush Books and Sagebrush Library Services will continue its 50+ years of servicing customers with the value, quality and service they have come to expect," said Hebrink. "With this new opportunity to focus on these areas, we expect to see continued growth in our core book business with broader product offerings and additional services to meet the evolving needs of today's library. We also expect to expand our industry-leading position in library services and grow our market share in helping districts manage information."
Sagebrush Books offers breadth and depth of title selection with more than 500,000 titles of all binding types including high-quality pre-bounds. The company also offers online full text reviews and AR quizzes. "Our new direction and focus will allow us to aggressively grow our book offerings to our business partners and continue to grow our highly credentialed collection development team," said Osadchuk. "This, along with our new alignment tool that provides librarians and educators the ability to search books correlated to state curriculum standards in all 50 states and DC in the core subject areas of Language, Math, Science and Reading for both fiction AND non-fiction titles, helps schools build the best collection for their unique needs."
Sagebrush Books' recent acquisition of Demco Media's Turtleback Books business is further proof of the company's commitment to serving the needs of K-12 libraries.
Sagebrush Library Services is focused on the cataloging and processing needs of K-12 schools and libraries and its Dewey Sears database is known for its quality cataloging in the industry and contains nearly a million MARC records. "We introduced major enhancements to this cataloging and processing service in 2005, and will now focus on making it even better and more efficient for our distributors, schools and other business partners," said Osadchuk.
Sagebrush Viewpoint is a data warehouse and management tool for school districts. Viewpoint provides teachers, principals and administrators with a single intuitive view of data consolidated from multiple district sources, from student information systems and state standards assessment to human resources and finance. With Viewpoint, educators can take action to target and manage instructional planning, monitor student progress, and guide curriculum development in conjunction with improvement plans.
