Los Angeles, California and Overland Park, KS, January 9, 2004 -- Infotrieve, the provider of Ariel, the most widely-used Interlibrary Loan document transmission system in the world, and Fretwell-Downing, the provider of the Virtual Document eXchange (VDX) ILL Management System, have announced an agreement that will deliver seamless integration between Ariel and VDX, and will provide their customers with new Interlibrary Loan transmission technology.
This agreement allows Infotrieve and Fretwell-Downing's customers worldwide to use the Joint Electronic Document Delivery Software (JEDDS) . The JEDDS plug-in provides the necessary middleware that integrates Ariel and VDX. With JEDDS, VDX users will be able to seamlessly access Ariel's document transmission facilities enabling integration of scanning, sending, receiving and printing of electronic documents , using either FTP or e-mail for transmission With JEDDS in place, Ariel users will be able to maximise the benefits of using VDX's market leading resource sharing functionality, which includes high level activity and performance reporting, automated, low cost ILL supplier matching system, and financial accountability controls and monitors that perform accounting and copyright control procedures. The software utilizes the Windows environment so that when a JEDDS/Ariel system is used with the VDX interlending system, they operate as a single system – minimizing key strokes and making workflow as efficient as possible for ILL operations.
