Blacksburg, VA - Hamilton Public Library (HPL) has completed implementation of its new Virtua Integrated Library System (ILS). The new system went live on November 18, a day earlier than expected, concluding the 9-month implementation. HPL selected Virtua earlier this year to meet the needs of its multiple branches with extensive collections and frequent patron activity. The implementation included migration of HPL's data from its former SirsiDynix Horizon system, including circulation data (circulation status, patron blocks, requests, active and historical fines and housebound data) and open orders. VTLS also provided 13 functional and workflow enhancements, including improved interfacing with the Smart Money Manager by Comprise Technologies.
"Virtua supports our floating collections throughout 23 branches and integrates well with our existing third party vendors," said Mary Sakaluk, Manager, Digital Technology Infrastructure, HPL, and Project Manager for the Virtua implementation. "The implementation process was remarkably smooth. It has been a pleasure working with a company focused on continuously improving their product by taking into account their customers' unique needs." HPL announced to patrons on its website that it now joins other leading Canadian public libraries – Vaughan Public Libraries (ON) and Richmond Public Library (BC) – in using Virtua.
"We are delighted to be given an opportunity to work with HPL. They are pioneers in implementing the latest technologies to enhance their services. VTLS made several improvements to Virtua to help streamline their operations, and these improvements will help all of our customers," said Dr. Vinod Chachra, President and CEO of VTLS.
