Softlink, a world leading provider of knowledge, content and library management solutions, is encouraging student reading across Australia and New Zealand schools by supporting the annual Kids' Lit Quiz.
Often referred to as ‘The Sport of Reading', the literacy competition commenced this week in Australia and will be held during March within New Zealand.
"Kids' Lit Quiz is an excellent initiative to inspire literacy and learning in schools," said Softlink Customer Relationship Director, Hillary Noye.
Kids' Lit Quiz, an annual nationwide competition, encourages students aged 10-13 years to be part of a team to challenge, motivate and develop positive attitudes towards reading at an age where reading for pleasure often declines. Originating in New Zealand, the not-for-profit competition recently expanded to the UK, USA, Canada, South Africa and is in its second year in Australia.
"The growth in popularity of the program indicates that our students' love of reading, either physical or e-Books, is also growing.
"We have certainly seen a similar trend across schools during recent Oliver and OverDrive eBook trials. In an example across New South Wales, more than 80% of students indicated that eBooks helped them read," he said.
Nicole Deans, Kids' Lit Quiz Australia Co-ordinator said "We are pleased to have Softlink on board to support the growth of the competition in Australia.
"Softlink has been a keen advocate of the Kids' Lit Quiz in New Zealand for many years and their sponsorship helps to encourage the love of reading."
New Zealand Manager, Lyn Walker said Softlink was in its fifth year of supporting the program, which aligns with the company's commitment to digital literacy and learning in schools.
"I look forward to attending the final each year to see the kids compete for the top prize," she said.
"Kids' Lit Quiz is a great incentive for schools to encourage students to read more and support their libraries."
