North Bethesda, MD, May 8, 2012: LibLime, a division of PTFS, announces the twenty fourth library of the Pioneer Consortium to join the Pioneer LibLime Koha union catalog.
Since May of 2011, the Pioneer Consortium, a group of public libraries throughout Nebraska, has worked with LibLime to build a union catalog from separate ILS databases, and add member libraries. The original group of eleven public libraries went live on LibLime Koha on in the spring of 2011. At that point, the new union catalog had just over 300,000 bibliographic records and nearly 900,000 item records.
During its first year using LibLime Koha, Pioneer was an active partner in continuing to improve the application. Pioneer brought their ideas for innovative new features to LibLime and together we worked to design several valuable enhancements to LibLime Koha and the GetIt acquisitions application, including:
- Patron record ownership by parent library in a union catalog
- Improvements to the holds queue workflow
- Ability to limit display of item holdings in the OPAC to just those available at the "home" library of the searcher, based on defined search groups. This feature includes an option to display other member libraries if desired.
- Enhanced EDI support to comply with the Baker & Taylor order grid
In just under one year, the Pioneer LibLime Koha union catalog membership has grown from the original eight libraries to the current twenty-four libraries, with three more now in various stages of implementation. To date, the Pioneer LibLime Koha union catalog includes over 520,000 bibliographic records and nearly 1.3 million items. The Consortium also provides support to member libraries using various 3rd party complimentary applications such as telephone renewals, self-checkout machines, and PC reservation software.
Current Pioneer member libraries include: Atkinson, Beatrice, Bennington, Blue Hill, David City, Grand Island, Grant, Hildreth, Holdrege, the multi-branch Lincoln City Public Library System, Papillion, South Sioux City, St. Paul, Stromsburg, Superior, and Valparaiso.
About the Pioneer Consortium
The Pioneer Consortium continues to expand the number of members that share the LibLime Koha union catalog. The successes of the early members of the consortium are noticed by more and more libraries around the state and the consortium membership continues to grow. One of the main attractions is access to the LibLime Koha union catalog.
