Los Angeles, CA -- January 26, 2009. Roosevelt University has implemented STAR/Archives as its archival collections management solution. STAR/Archives, a product of Cuadra Associates, Inc., supports the management of archival collections of all types. It works with Cuadra’s acclaimed STAR knowledge management software and follows the international standards for archival description--ISAD (g), DACS, Dublin Core, and EAD.
Roosevelt University, which currently serves a student population of approximately 7,700 students, is an independent urban university. It was founded in 1945 as an institution through which Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s democratic ideals and values could be used as the springboard for pioneering educational programs and democratic decision-making.
The archives includes a wide range of materials from the University’s past, including the University Presidents’ papers, letters from famous individuals, including Albert Schweitzer, Jonas Salk, Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, and many others. In addition, they have records relating to the historic Auditorium Building and Theater designed by Adler and Sullivan and photographs of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.
According to University Archivist Laura Mills, the University is preparing to provide public access to the collection, using the customizable browser-based public access module that is part of STAR/Archives. "The collections are an invaluable resource. We purchased STAR/Archives, in part, because we wanted to make the collection accessible to our users, " she said, "and now we’re looking forward to seeing our users’ reactions as they search the collections themselves."
STAR/Archives has been extremely useful in inventorying the collection, said Ms. Mills.
"We know that we could have used spreadsheets and word-processed finding aids for tracking the metadata, but neither of those would have given us the tools we need for organizing and searching the materials."
