June 18, 2007. The good news for libraries today is the launch of a new company, CARe Affiliates, Inc, founded by Carl Grant, well known leader in the field of library automation and Lou Leuzzi, seasoned executive from the information solutions field.
In response to concerns librarians have expressed over needing lower costs, more interoperability, control and flexibility in their automation solutions, CARe Affiliates, Inc. was formed. The company will use open source software (i.e. software that has no license costs and uses standardized software licenses) as the basis for total solutions offered and supported by CARe.
As things exist today, many libraries need to obtain at least some of the following services in order to use open source software: consulting, selection, packaging, integration, installation, support, hosting (SaaS), maintenance and continued development. CARe Affiliates is available to meet those needs.
"Lou Leuzzi and I want to build a different kind of company, one that works as partners with libraries to jointly develop great ideas, provide needed solutions in an open environment and to do it in affordable and caring way. The company name is a deliberate reflection of the approach we will follow in working with libraries. We CARe".
So, if you want to talk with a solution provider who listens and CARes about your needs and your vision for your library, plan on visiting CARe Affiliates at ALA, in the Open Solutions booth Number 2437. Unlike other booths, the Open Solutions booth is a spot where you'll find three companies, all who support open source software solutions. Any of them can talk to you about the advantages of open source solutions. Come and learn about the range of solutions available. Isn't it time you once again work with a company that CARes?
