MCHENRY, Ill., Aug. 1, 2014 – Three Follett products nominated by K-12 educators and administrators from around the country have earned recognition in the eSchool News' Readers' Choice Awards for 2014-15. Follett's market-leading Destiny Library Manager has been named one of the winning products and services, while Aspen Instructional Management System (IMS) and Follett Shelf each received honorable mention status.

Of the 1,300 nominations received, 80 were singled out as either winners or honorable mentions in the competition, among the most prestigious in the education technology industry.

"We are especially honored to receive awards of this nature because the nominations directly come from educators and administrators," said Tom Schenck, president, Follett School Solutions. "Ultimately, readers can discover invaluable information about what is working for their peers, and why."

In her nomination of Destiny Library Manager, Michelle Luhtala, head librarian at New Canaan High School, wrote the Connecticut school uses the management solution as a library catalog for print books, websites, ebooks, databases, student book reviews, student ratings, and student-created book trailers.

"The value of having all of these services accessible to students through a single log-in in one portal has been incalculable in terms of streamlining ‘how-to' instruction and empowering the library program to focus on higher-order thinking problems – all of which support Common Core learning and overall student achievement," Luhtala wrote.

Jim Monti, director of educational reform, compliance for West Warwick (R.I.) Public Schools, submitted a nomination for Follett's Aspen IMS. "It is a comprehensive instructional management system that unified our district's ability to house all of our student, staff and curriculum data under one application," Monti wrote. "Aspen allows us to connect all of our data from student to teacher to curriculum to make the best decisions about the students and employees in our care."

In her nomination, Rachel Schemelin, digital learning coordinator for West Allis-West Milwaukee, noted the Wisconsin school district adopted Follett Shelf for its ebook collection to support personalization in the district's Next-Generation Communities. "Management is easy as Follett ebooks integrate seamlessly with Follett's Destiny Library Manager solution," Schemelin wrote. "Students are excited by the availability of the ebooks from home or school, and even download them to their iPads to read offline. We are continuing to build both our print and ebook libraries through Follett products."

The 2014-15 Readers' Choice Award winners are recognized in eSchool News' August issue, as well as on the publication's website (www.eschoolnews.com/rca).
