New York, NY -- May 17, 2013. TLC Labs has joined New York Public Library, Kobo, Readmill, Swarm, and others to cosponsor the first Publishing Hackathon led by major media industry participants: The Perseus Books Group, Librify, BookExpo, and William Morris Endeavor (WME). The event is being hosted at The AlleyNYC, a coworking space that is the home of TLC Labs' New York City office.
The event will focus on Book Discovery and occur over 36 hours on May 18 and 19. Finalists will be chosen to present at a BookExpo event on May 31 and judged by industry experts.
TLC Labs will also be fielding its own team members in the Hackathon. TLC COO Simon Marcus commented, "We feel this event will lead to some serious engagement on the matter of Book Discovery, and we want to be sure that the interests of libraries and their partners are well represented. In fact, we added a special prize for the team that best utilizes the RDA (Resource Description and Access) standard for cataloging data records."
The winning project will receive a $10,000 prize and the opportunity to pitch their idea at a breakfast meeting with Ari Emanuel, Co-CEO of William Morris Endeavor. More information can be found at PublishingHackathon.com.
